Twelve miles north of our Moonstone Beach inn in Cambria on Highway 1 is the Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery, a spectacle of nature not to be missed. Throughout the year, elephant seals come ashore at Piedras Blancas to rest or mate, making it easy to witness these aquatic mammals in their natural environment. This colony is one of the few places in the world where elephant seals can be seen from such a short distance.
