Elephant Seal Rookery

The Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery is a short drive up the coast, just north of the FogCatcher Inn. Witness elephant seals in their natural environment, a site not to be missed. Throughout the year, elephant seals come ashore at the rookery to rest or mate. This colony is one of the few places in the world where elephant seals can be seen in such a close proximately to their natural resting grounds.

You can view the seals only from designated areas. Docents are available to assist with questions and offer up a plethora of information. Occasionally, the seals will come onto the walkway, and if you observe this, please remain outside the gate. It is best to keep a respectful distance since even the youngest animals can be dangerous.
